Dear David:
How excited I became when it dawned on me the byline under “The Chosen Few–Antibiotics That Kill” in The New England Journal of Medicine was yours.
I must say the title was also a grabber. Neither was I disappointed when I read of your recent research and the unique perspective you set forth. This is an area worthy of much more study, and you’re just the colleague who might find that breakthrough. I admire your work tremendously.
Thank you for taking the time to publish such controversial theories; I wish more professionals had the moral courage to raise such questions.
Sincerely,

Dear Max:
I certainly enjoyed reading the March 20 “Financial Waves” article on your fast-growing company. Such coverage not only reflects good public relations but an excellent explanation of the company’s accomplishments and objectives for future products.
The move to Boston certainly must have involved some inconveniences, but your comments in that respect show wise judgment that, I think, will pay handsome dividends in the next few years.
Please accept my sincere admiration–and don’t forget to phone me when you’re in town again.

Dear Willis:
Congratulations on the fine job you’re doing at Vertex, Inc. I read with interest the article you published in Global Trends. As you might guess, I read quite a bit on your subject, but you presented your viewpoint in the article in a most striking way–an interesting insight into the customer-service arena.
Your sound, fundamental approach to sales management should have been followed by many of our colleagues who were not so well prepared for the recession perils of the last two years.

Dear Dorothy:
Just a note to let you know how much I enjoyed your spring issue of Rex Marketing Record. I see a number of these in-house newsletters and was, in fact, the editor of one for a short while. Yours is the best such newsletter I have read.
Especially, I was interested in the article on DBT-IO-RO. Recently, Bill Macadoo and I met at an ASTD convention in San Francisco. I hope you’ll do more with that concept, and he may be just the person to follow up the action in later issues.
An idea: The expense might be prohibitive, but have you considered sending a copy to every stockholder?
Regards,

Grover,
It was startling to see your steely blue eyes leering at me from the photo a top your byline and bio in Executive Excellence. To write you every time you get a new honor, publish an article, or make big waves elsewhere would be prohibitively expensive–especially since postage has just gone up.
But having an article accepted in such a prestigious place I certainly felt was worthy of a note. Fine job. We’re proud of you. I hope you have long coattails.
All my best,
